Burns Lake Helps Fort McMurray

Driving a U-Haul trailer full of supplies for people from Fort McMurray seeking shelter in the town of Stony Plain, Alberta, was an idea Burns Lake Citizen Jacqui Narayan had to help out.

She made a Facebook post on Friday (May 6) morning asking for people to donate whatever items they could. She was shocked at how quickly the trailer was filled.

“I was hoping that it was going to do well, but I was shocked that it did as well as it did in such a short amount of time,” says Narayan.

She was able to fill the trailer and made the trip that Friday, returning late Sunday. She gave mostly blankets, clothing, pillows and other non-food items to evacuees through a Church member she knew in Stony Plain.

“That whole week I was sitting back thinking, ‘I wish I could help, I wish I could do something’. So I got up Friday morning and said to my husband – let’s just do it, let’s do it,” said Narayan.
