Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been criticized as of late for his lack of appearance in fort McMurray. Trudeau says he doesn’t want to get in the way and be a distraction to emergency personnel there.
While Member of Parliament for the Skeena-Bulkley Valley Nathan Cullen understands his point, he thinks it’s best to be there.
“I’ve had natural disasters in the northwest and I didn’t want to get in the way – and I understand that. But, I’ve learned over years that the people involved appreciate you going, appreciate you understanding. So I do hope that Mr. Trudeau does show up,” says Cullen. “You don’t take away from the crews, you give them the sense you support them.”
The Federal Government is expected to spend possibly billions as a part of their Disaster Financial assistance arrangements. The feds also announced they’ll be matching Red Cross donations on top of that.
