To give businesses a boost, Burns Lake Mayor Luke Strimbold will be working with council on a commercial revitalization tax exemption by-law
“Recognizing that if a commercial business makes a significant upgrade their taxes will be increased significantly. so is there a way we can mitigate that significant increase over a period of time to allow that business to grow,” says Strimbold.
With the villages industrial tax revitalization by-law, they currently tax a zero per cent increase on the first year of assessment for businesses, incrementally increasing the tax over a five year period.
Strimbold says this all helps the general growth of the village. The commercial revitalization tax exemption by-law is still in the idea stages as a part of the council’s economic development plan.
