The Smithers satellite Hiv and Hepatitis C service providers through Northern Health could receive up to $30,000 for increased funding according to Ciro Penessa, the Regional Director for Chronic Diseases.

He says it’s part of the $180,000 dedicated to tackling hep C and HIV in northern BC.

“Currently, they are doing services in Smithers like needle distribution, condoms…recovery,” says Penessa, “for communities like Smithers…$30,000 dollars is the limit at this stage.”

Northern Health only has a contract with Positive Health for in Smithers along the Highway 16 corridor.
