To keep the elderly and the community of Telkwa more mobile, the village is looking to the public for improvements to their transportation and trail systems.
A public meeting held later this month will give the province and village an idea as to how to spend some grant dollars on improvements, explains Liliana Dragowska, a contractor for the village on the project.
“What are potential improvements from an accessibility perspective? Where are the difficulties with people who are aging, people with strollers…the disabled,” says Dragowska. “How can we make the trail and transportation system in Telkwa more accessible?”
An estimate shows 7 per cent of Telkwa’s population is considered senior citizens. Provincial estimates see the seniors population grow 25 per cent by 2031.
The village will be holding the meeting for community input on trail and transportation improvements on the 23rd. Tey also encourage input on their facebook page.
