Air Quality and Zoning Bylaws on Council Agenda

Smithers Town Council will meet tonight for the first regularly scheduled meeting this month.

Council will be discussing the town zoning bylaw that limits buildings to be no higher than 3-storeys.

This decision could decide whether or not the Bryton Group’s could build a 4-storey hotel behind Boston Pizza.

Some citizens have become concerned that this decision would limit the Town’s view scape.

Air quality will be another big part of tonight’s meeting, found on the agenda three different times.

This issue has been a hot topic since NEWPRO announced it’s recent wood pellet plant proposal.

NEWPRO says the plant could eliminate certain air pollutants equal to 3,700 wood stoves.

Council wishes to hear public input, especially on these two matters and invites everyone to tonight’s 6:30 PM meeting at Town Hall.
