BC Nurses Union hosting PG rally as job intimidation rises in Northern Health

The topic of nurse intimidation has made its way north.

Today (Friday) the BC Nurses’ Union is holding a rally in Prince George, to call on Northern Health to immediately end the intimidation and retaliation nurses face for participating in lawful job action.

According to the union, since job action began on July 2nd, over 4,000 reports of intimidation, coercion and interference from nurses across BC has been received.

Over one-quarter of those reports have come from nurses working in Northern Health, despite the health authority representing only a fraction of the provincial workforce.

The Nurses Union noted the volume and nature of these reports make Northern Health the province’s most significant source of concerns related to the treatment of nurses exercising their legal rights.

President Adriane Gear and BCNU interim northeast Regional Council Member Raelene Stevenson are slated to speak to media following the rally.
