The value of real estate sales in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District has gone up in the first nine months compared to the same time a year prior.
That’s according to the B.C. Northern Real Estate Board, adding the number of transactions has remained mostly the same.
In Smithers, 131 properties worth a total of $79.1 million changed hands by the end September compared to 132 properties worth $72 million combined in 2025.
Sixty of those were single-family homes with 100 properties remaining on the market.
In Houston, 47 properties have sold worth $12.3 million in total, one more than during the same period last year, but down in total value from $13.5 million.
There, 58 properties remained available for purchase.
Burns Lake recorded 56 sales, six more than during the first nine months of 2026, with transactions valued at $18.7 million.
The Hazelton area saw 26 properties change hands, down from 29 a year earlier, while the total value of transactions rose to $8.6 million.
Across northern B.C., the total value of properties sold remained unchanged at $1.6 billion, with the number of properties sold falling by about 100 to 3,654.
More properties are also still for sale at 3,630 compared to 3,258 at the same time last year.
The board said third-quarter sales activity was between four and eight per cent below historical averages.
It said much of the stability coming from growth in the North Coast and Cariboo area.
