A band from Burns Lake was in the spotlight at the CN Centre in Prince George, opening for Chilliwack on Saturday.
Dead Horse Hill won the opportunity to perform with support from the Burns Lake community.
“Everything I kind of imagined, it went off the way I was hoping for it too,” said vocalist Matt Mathews.
Ahead of the concert, a contest was held to have a local band open for Chilliwack which he said he learned about after working on the road.
Mathews added the next day, he learned it was the final day to submit into the contest.
After a voting phase, the top four bands battled to be chosen as the opener.
“I wanted it really, really bad,” he said.
“Listening to the last band play, it wasn’t just a sure thing. The other bands that played, they were great bands.”
Mathews said he was nervous waiting for the final announcement to be made, and excited after learning the news.
“I was excited. I grabbed somebody, lifted them up in the air, and as much as you want to say we kept our composure, no. I went ballistic,” he said.
Leading up to the performance, Mathews said every night felt like Christmas eve.
“We had an intro play before we walked on stage, and I made that intro a couple years ago for a moment like this, never knowing a moment like this would come,” he said.
Mathews added the performance was well received with several people reaching out afterwards to express their enjoyment.
He said if the opportunity presented itself again, he would take it.
