BV Pool starts design work on expansion project

Design work on phase one of the Bulkley Valley Pool and Recreation Centre expansion project is underway.

The phase will add a new fitness room, administrative offices, reconfiguration of the entrance and lobby, and the introduction of a multi-purpose room.

“This year, we will not be building. We’re hoping to break ground in 2027 or 2028,” said Olava Brooke, Community Engagement and Fundraising Coordinator.

The phase is expected to cost up to $2.5 million with $1.2 million available from its capitol reserve, built up while the pool was closed through the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pool and Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako are looking into grant funding to make up the difference in cost.

Once construction is complete, the pool is hoping to increase the amount of programs it offers through the year.

“Currently, life saving programs are offered out of our racket sport space which creates some congestion issues and programing issues,” said Brooke.

The design is expected to be complete later this year.
