This year’s Mental Health and Addictions Symposium was hosted in Prince George last week.
There, nine First Nations, local governments, and agencies joining the agreement were added to the Mental Health and Addictions Accord meant to help facilitate work on tackling the crisis in northern and central B.C.
They are the:
- Village of Granisle,
- Village of Burns Lake,
- District of Hudson’s Hope,
- Village of Fraser Lake,
- Tahltan Band,
- Association Advocating for Women and Community (AWAC),
- Prince George Sexual Assault Centre,
- Northern Peer Guardians,
- Youth Wellness Society of Mackenzie.
The symposium was hosted to support coordinated joint and regional responses to the mental health and addictions crisis in northern and central B.C. with various group discussions held.
“The discussions were heartfelt and honest about the mental health and addictions crisis in our communities,” said NCLGA President Gladys Atrill.
“It is clear we all want to improve conditions for our residents. One need clearly expressed is for more communication among us, and sharing successes with our neighbours.”
The accord was created last year with the total number of signatories now up to 39.
