Smoke may be visible from Highway 16 and South Hazelton between March 30 and May 17 as the Wilp Nikate’en perform a cultural burn.
It will be happening at Anderson Flats with support from the BC Wildfire Service.
The burn area will be about 9.4 hectares with exact times depending on the weather and site conditions.
According to the wildfire service, the burn is being done to increase cultural food and medicinal plant productivity.
It is also to reduce the risk of wildfire by removing dead and combustible material, promoting a healthy ecosystem.
