The Bulkley Valley Rod and Gun Club is participating in National Range Day with various activities.
The day is held to help teach residents about Canada’s firearms heritage and experience a sport open to all ages and abilities.
“This year, we’ve planned a few riffle events,” said Acting Director Jonathan Zappitelli.
“One’s called the Black Jack challenge which is a centre fire event where targets are placed at a far distance and you test your accuracy.”
The other event for kids is a scavenger hunt with targets hidden across the field with the participant needing to identify and hit them.
Zappitelli said various events have been held through the years, with last year’s being a mock National Rifle League .22 match.
“This year, trying something a little bit different to maybe gague more activity down at the range,” he added.
According to the B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF), more than 2.3 million Canadians are licensed firearms owners.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase how much safe, responsible fun you can have at a range by bringing your friends and neighbours to try out sport shooting and archery,” said Monte Clarke, BCWF Development and Advocacy Manager.
Events will start at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
