Proposed LNG Pipeline creates 5000+ jobs

Pacific NorthWest made a stop in Smither today at the monthly Chamber of Commerce meetings to discuss their proposed LNG pipeline on Lelu Island.

The proposed pipeline would need upwards of 5000 jobs, spanning from construction to security, to field work, and even tugboat operators.

Community Relations Advisor Derek Baker says that today’s visit to Town was to get people thinking about moving West for work

“We want to make sure, and that’s part of our engagement with Smithers today, is to make sure people are aware of the opportunities and can start planning on how they want to get involved in the industry,” he says.

Baker said that construction jobs would last 4 – 5 years whereas operational ones would be a minimum of 25.
