RCMP cleared of any wrongdoing in shooting incident in Quesnel

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C has cleared the Quesnel RCMP of any blame for a shooting incident.

Police responded to a report of gunshots at a residence in the 500 block of Nason Street at around 4:30 p.m. back on April 15, 2026.

They were told that there was a man inside with a firearm and the Emergency Response Team was brought in to contain the area.

Neighbours were instructed to leave their homes or shelter in a basement.

Police later entered the residence and located a man who was suffering from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital for assessment and treatment.

After analyzing all available evidence, IIO investigators determined that none of the man’s injuries were connected to any police action or inaction.

The Chief Civilian Director also reviewed the case and came to the same conclusion.

Video footage from police body-worn cameras, audio recordings, medical records, witness accounts and forensic data were all part of the investigation.
