Wheels in Motion on new skate park

The Boarding for Brant committee filled the gallery at Smithers Council Tuesday night for their presentation regarding a new skate park, one that would be much larger than the current one.
Project Spokesperson Jason Krauskopf (KROW-skof) wants to make the proposed park safer for riders and inviting for both locals and tourists.
“When I travel with my kids a long distance, if we’re going to stop for a break somewhere it’s going to be close to a skate park. We’d sit, have a lunch and a picnic or whatever, and the kids would get out and exercise,” he says.
Mayor Taylor Bachrach would like a local pit stop, but is more excited to get kids outdoors.
“It’s a really low barrier sport: the equipment doesn’t cost much and once you have a skateboard or a bmx, it’s free to use. I think that’s the kind of thing, around affordable recreations, that we really want to support,” says the mayor.
The next step for both parties is to work out any outstanding details, and then to create a final design for the park
