Wildfire smoke triggers air quality statement for Bulkley Valley, Lakes District

A special air quality statement is in effect for the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.

According to Environment Canada, it is due to wildfire smoke in the area causing poor air quality and limited visibility until Thursday.

“Smoke across the Skeena region is expected to thin during the day but persist in valley bottoms overnight,” it said.

The statement added exposure to high smoke levels can pose a threat regardless of health or age.

It is more likely to impact infants and young kids, people aged 65 and older, and those with pre-existing conditions.

During the statement, Environment Canada recommends following common sense, monitoring symptoms, stay indoors with windows and doors closed, and check on neighbors.
