Three seriously hurt in two accidents in Smithers over the weekend

Three women were seriously injured in two separate incidents in Smithers on Saturday.

On Saturday Aug 27th and about 2:26am, RCMP were called to the Bulkley Valley Fairgrounds for an ATV crash. A 41 and 36 year old women were transported to hospital, with one being transferred to Vancouver for further treatment. Neither woman was wearing a helmet. Police are still investigating the crash and would like anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the detachment at 250.847.3233

Later that same day at 11:41am, Smithers RCMP responded to a single vehicle rollover of Hudson Bay Mountain Road. Witnesses and evidence indicates the driver may have lost control on the gravel road and overcorrected, sending the vehicle off the road right, rolling multiple times before coming to a rest against trees.

The 18 year old female driver was the lone occupant and was ejected from the vehicle. It’s suspected she was not wearing a seatbelt. She was flown to Vancouver General Hospital with life threatening injuries. Speed may be a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
