Construction on Cottonwood Manor in Houston will finish by next year

The Cottonwood Manor in Houston will be rebuilt and ready to live in by next year.

Parts of the seniors housing facility became dilapidated and unsafe to live in, prompting the Smithers Community Services Association(SCSA) to demolish and rebuild much of the facility.

Once rebuilt, it will have 16 independent and six assisted living spaces for seniors.

“The community has had a lot of hits lately. So having something new and happening there is good. I think a lot of people in Houston want their relatives to be able to age in Houston,” says Cathryn Olmstead, Executive Director of the SCSA. “with this new transportation that’s supposed to be coming – I think that will make it a good place for people.”

Olmstead says the renovation will cost around $3 million and will be paid for with provincial and federal money.

She says they’re waiting on some work to see if the land is ok to build on before finishing construction.
