It looks like the Bulkley Valley District Hospital will be getting a digital mammography machine.
According to a memo, Northern Health is moving ahead with securing a machine for the hospital.
Smithers originally wasn’t going to get a new machine with plans to phase out the analogue machine next year.
Northern Health now says they’ve made a formal request to the Screening Mammography Program of BC.
The provincial equipment installer for mammography machines has been invited to Smithers to assess the site.
Northern Health says an advisory group will also make recommendations on how to improve breast cancer screening rates and diagnostic treatment.
