RDBN looks to boost the agriculture industry

The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako is looking at how to stimulate the agriculture industry.

Chair of the District Bill Miller says they’ll be hiring a facilitator position aimed at coordinating the efforts within the agricultural sector.

“There’s going to be some reduction in the forestry sector in one way or the other,” says Miller about the looming reduction to the Annual Allowable Cut and softwood lumber tariffs.

He says they want to boost economic development.

“Agriculture is a prime industry and it’s a growth industry in BC.”

Miller says the position will also help communicate with higher levels of government on needed solutions for the industry.

He says they want to get different producers and agriculture groups at the same table.
