Smithers sends Emergency Support Service to help evacuation efforts

Three emergency support services personnel from Smithers have made the trip to Prince George to aid in relief efforts.

Many evacuees have taken refuge in the city while wildfires burn across the province.

“We’re very fortunate here to not be directly affected. it’s great to hear personnel from our community are trying to be of assistance in any way they can,” says Mayor Bachrach.

“Overall, I’m really impressed by people’s generosity and how folks from all over the province have come together to help the communities that area affected.”

Several businesses are also accepting donations to help the Red Cross.

“My understanding is that the most important donation is cash. It allows the experts that are in charge of the response to put those resources to the best use possible.”

The town is planning on setting up a fundraiser for the Red Cross. We’ll have more details on that tomorrow.
