One of the two Syrian refugee families will finally arrive in Smithers on Monday.
The Assaf family will leave Beirut on Friday, and spend all weekend travelling before landing in Smithers on Family Day.
BV Refugee Sponsorship Group Coordinator Pauline Mahoney says it was a lot of fundraising and paperwork to get the family here, but it was worth it.
“I knew it was going to be a lot of work but we’re so lucky here, we’re so privileged, it doesn’t seem much for me to have to put in this work to make this happen because, I mean, gosh, look around us, we’re pretty lucky,” she says.
She says the group only wants a private welcoming party.
