Fake guns spark “High Risk Takedown”

Smithers RCMP is using a recent incident to remind residents to be smart with guns, even the fake ones.

Police responded to a complaint Friday, February 19th around 5 PM of three men driving around with what looked like a handgun.

RCMP did a “high risk takedown” of the three men on Highway 16 near Trout Creek.

The three men, one aged 37 and two aged 27, were taken into custody.

A search found three BB guns; one looked like a Colt .45 and another looked like an assault rifle.

No actual guns were found and the three men were released without being charged.

Police remind the public that these guns can look like actual firearms, and are best left at home or in the trunk of your car.
