Telkwa is looking for new ways to conserve the local water supply.
The Village faces a real concern of not having enough water to fight fire or other emergencies. Telkwa was also told serious water conservation will help with upcoming water tower funding.
Mayor Darcy Repen says there needs to be a usage assessment, to see what measures need to be taken.
“If we’re doing well then that’s a great sign to our funding partners, but if we’re doing poorly (then) I think we need to look at some initiatives, and metering could be one of those,” he says, “it’s proven to be effective in other municipalities.”
Council decided on an overnight leak check.
Some conservation ideas include an educational “Water Day,” and installing water meters.
