Smithers Wood Stove Burning Survey

A wood stove burning survey in the town of Smithers is going to cost roughly over 10 thousand dollars – the idea is to get a better look at the compliance of wood burning stoves, which Councillor Bill Goodacre says can harm the air quality in town.

“The discussion will probably cover whether or now what we’re doing now is adequate in terms of dealing with the contribution people’s wood stoves are making to the problem, because they’re not the only source of smoke,” says Goodacre. He says the mills in town have done a lot to cut down on the particles they put in the air.

Since 2004, the town has had a reduction of 27 per cent of their greenhouse gas emissions under the climate action charter.
