Sharing volunteers across municipalities is something Smithers has agreed to do in the event of an emergency.
Emergency support services are made up of volunteers, and the Smithers team will be ready to help Telkwa and the Regional District.
Fire Chief Keith Stecko says they’re recruiting for the volunteer emergency support services.
“It just so happens that we’re training our team to be more resilient and to be able to have capacity long-term to deal with those kind of things.”
Things like people being “removed from their homes due to emergency fires and natural disasters,” explains Stecko. “And set-up creature comforts so the community is taken care of.”
