School trustee candidates debate last night

The school board office was packed for last night’s school trustee debate in Smithers.
In the Smithers, Glentanna, Driftwood zone, there are four people vying for two spots, including two incumbents.
Lara Collingwood and Frank Farrell are both trying to keep their seats.
Collingwood says she wants to seek another term because she’s learned so much from her first term.
“I’m running for re-election beacuse I’m a parent of two children in the school sytems so I have invested interest in public education she says. “So I’m just trying to contribute and make sure the kids in our district get the best education they can.”
Farrell says there is still more work he’d like to get done.
“I”m running for a third term because there is a lot of things that need to continue on, in terms of personal learning, infrastructure and our students,” he says. “We have a lot of opportunities but we also have a lot of challenges.”
Dawn Hanson and Roxy Hirshfield are also running for those two seats.
In Telkwa-Quick, Billie Jean Beaubien is running against incumbent Judy McIntosh.
The other two electoral districts in the school district saw their trustees acclaimed.
