Power outage risk eliminated from damaged tower: BC Hydro

BC Hydro says they’ve successfully created a barrier around a transmission tower subjected to recent river flooding in the Bulkley Valley on Friday.

Steady water levels have allowed crews to secure the structure, and better anchor the base, which has seen erosion as a result of the flooding.

Spokesperson Bob Gammer says this is avoid future situations of high water flows.

He adds the risk of power outages and/or interruptions for 10,000 customers, ranging from Telkwa to the Hazeltons, has been eliminated.

BC Hydro, however, is still encouraging customers to always be prepared with a 72-hour emergency kit in case of outage.
