Bulkley Backcountry Ski Society and the Smithers Snowmobile Association are hosting an Avalanche Awareness evening tonight. One of the organizers of the event, Erin Hall says there will be three presenters from the Smithers and Terrace areas covering a variety of topics along with a couple of videos. The presenters have a diverse background including avalanche professionals, skiers, snowmobilers, avalanche educators and a certified avalanche rescue dog handler. She says they will discuss the snow pack to date, what to do after an avalanche occurs and what to watch for when out riding. The event will be held at the Hudson Bay Lodge from 7-9 pm and admission is by donation.
