The Bulkley Valley and Lakes District are under snowfall warnings.
Environment Canada says the region can expect up to 30 cm before the storm subsides on Saturday.
Warning preparedness meteorologist Lisa Coldwells says the snow will keep falling steadily until then.
“The snowfall warning for the Smithers area and in for a good portion for the central interior is caused by the pineapple express that is coming up from the southwest,” she says. “The arctic front is firmly in place and there is lots of cold air in the northwest and when this warm air comes over top, it snows.”
Flights in and out of the Smithers Regional Airport have also been affected by this storm with at least one cancelled and one delayed so far today.
