WET’SUWET’EN Constitution Youth Committee

The Wet’suwet’en Governance Team is looking for 6 young adults aged 16-21 to become the next Wet’suwet’en Youth Committee (WYC).

The WYC will have the opportunity to be a voice within the Wet’suwet’en community and shape themselves as leaders of tomorrow.

The 6 chosen applicants will integrate with local Chiefs as well as educate themselves further on the Wet’suwet’en Clan.

The WYC will also find ways to creatively translate the constitution in public forms such as games, presentations, etc.

Those chosen will have to follow these expectations:

  • One-half day of introduction
  • 1 day or trial runs
  • 6 days of workshop development
  • Bringing forth self-generated ideas to clan meetings

Deadline for application to the Wet’suwet’en Office is tomorrow (April 27th, 2018.) and additional information can be found here.

Background information:

The Wet’suwet’en homeland covers 22.000 square kilometers.

There are five clans within the Wet’suwet’en

  • Gilseyhyu-Big Frog
  • Gitdumden- Bear/Wolf
  • Laksaamishyu- Fireweed/Killer Whale
  • Laksilyu- Small Frog
  • Tsayu- Beaver

The Town of Smithers if founded on the Gitdumen – Bear/Wolf clan territory.
