13-year-old Casey Gibson from Telkwa is not your typical teenager, the kid has his own business.

That business is known as “Kool Treatz” which is a mobile ice-cream bike service that will be hitting the streets of Smithers, in the summer of 2018.

The goal of Gibson’s business is simple, to provide residents with ice-cream treats through the warm summer months.

Casey has a desire to make money the old-fashioned way and this initiative is certainly a step up from the typical lemonade stand. He loves interacting with the community and wants to establish himself as a hard worker within the region.

At Smithers Town Council’s approval, Gibson will be able to wheel his way through Municipal Parks across town, as well as take part in the Canada Day festivities. Mayor Taylor Bachrach says Gibson has Councils full support.

“Two of my favorite things in life, ice cream and bicycles, how could I not like this proposal?” Bachrach said jokingly “This shows great entrepreneurial spirit by the youth in our community. After a discussion about by-laws and how things work, it sounds like we can get a permit for Casey to begin his ventures in Smithers. I wish him all the best and it will be exciting to see him around town.”

Gibson wants to ensure the public his business is fully licensed and insured, as well as his application from Northern Health has been approved.
