Teachers and province to meet again

Bulkley Valley Teacher Union rep, Karen Bachman says the B.C. Teacher’s Federation and the province will meet again today after an announcement by the province that it will surrender the 10-year deal demand in exchange for a six-year offer.

Bachman says the six-year deal is better than the 10-year contract the union and the province have been fighting over.

“Absolutely. Yes. We have been saying that we would go for a shorter contract so we are glad to hear that they are thinking less than 10 years, that’s for sure.”

She says the province and the bargaining team will meet later today to find out what specifically is being offered but according to Minister Peter Fassbender the province will now offer a six-year deal and a signing bonus if an agreement can be reached soon.
