Budget Released, Program to remain same

After recent drops in local enrollment and provincial funding, it seems that District 54 will be just fine next year.

The annual budget meeting proved that schools in the area could still have specialized programs without suffering any significant cuts.

Local Teachers Union Presidents Ilona Weiss feels that the education system in the Bulkley Valley is top notch and is happy nothing was seriously changed.

“We’ve got spectacular teachers and spectacular sports programs the hockey academy, the music programs, the drama programs. We’re very lucky here that we have those opportunities for our kids and that they haven’t been cut,” she says.

Weiss says the biggest and most notable difference will be an increase for local trades programs.
