Two Bulkley Valley schools packing up their clubs and heading home from this week’s High School Provincial Boys Golf Championships.
Bulkley Valley Christian and Smithers Secondary were up against some of the Province’s best, competing in the “A” and “AA” finals respectively.
Smithers finished in 10th place of 15 schools, a large accomplishment considering they were short one player all tournament.
The school has now ranked in BC’s top 10 for back-to-back years, and alumni Kaleb Gorbahn is one top-4 finish away from competing in the Canadian Open.
Coach Dana Gorbahn says this just goes the recent placing shows there is talent in Smithers.
“It does show that there are possibilities of coming out of a small town in the North. If we work a little bit hard at the game then we would be able to be successful,” he says.
In the “A” tournament, BVCS finished in 4th of 8. They improved by 9 strokes between the two days and finished with a team +89.
