Local advocates are making current air quality levels known.

Former air quality technician Jim Senka says Smithers air fails to meet the Provincial inhalable standard of 8 mg matter per metre cubed.

According to him, Smithers is at 8.3 mg per metre cubed.

Senka has a few ideas of how Smithers can diminish that number.

“wood stoves being very cognisant of how to burn wood properly is a big one. Avoid idling your cars would also help. Stay away from diesel fumes from diesel fuels completely,” he says.

Senka says that changing wood stoves to wood pellet stoves can make a difference as well.
