Open Fire Ban in select Northern Communities

UPDATE: As of July 3rd at noon, this fire ban was in effect for all of British Columbia except for the “Fog Zone” on the west coast of Vancouver Island.

Certain Northern community will be seeing immediate changes to open fire policies.

As of noon on July 2nd, open fires will be banned in the Coast Mountain Forest, Nadina Forest, and Skeena Stikine Forest Districts.

These include campfires, backyard burning, and fireworks.

This is an effort to prevent human-caused wildfires.

Fines start at $345, while a court conviction can lead to $100,000 fine and a year in jail.

This is in effect until further notice.
