Hudson Bay Mountain to open for 2021-2022 ski season

Hudson Bay Mountain will be opening to the public on Saturday (Dec 4).

According to General Manager Lex Rei Jones, it’s exciting to see people outside again and enjoy the slopes.

She said for opening weekend there is some great snow for skiers and snowboarders.

“We currently have accumulated snowfall at 103 centimetres already so, we’ve almost got a metre worth saved for when it’s packed down and it’s been dumping up there,” Rei-Jones said.

She added during opening weekend they will have the skyline chair open but it will be limited due to avalanche mitigation.

Rei Jones also said that a staffing shortage has had an impact on the mountain.

“We did have to reduce some of our days in December luckily I went on a bit of a hiring blitz in the past couple of days and also with the amazing help from the community, the cabin community and the ski club we’ve been able to fill in a couple of Fridays in December,” she said.

Rei-Jones added that there continues to be safety measures in place at the mountain.

This will include Proof of Vaccination for access to the Whiskey Lounge and Coyote Café, masks will be required in all lift lines and the warming hut will be closed.

A full list of safety protocols can be found on Hudson Bay Mountain’s website.
