Hampton, Babine speak following Inquest

Babine Forest Products, Ltd. and Hampton Affiliates recently responded to the Coroner’s Inquest results.

CEO Steve Zika says Hampton had never seen or heard of an explosion like this in its 70-year existence.

He says the company is “eternally sorry for this lack of recognition and have taken many steps at all of [their] sawmills to ensure this never happens again.”

Moving forward, the company says it’s new mill is meets or exceed all current fire, dust and electrical regulations. There will be weekly safety meetings and they’ve installed all emergency systems and safety processes recommended by the jury.

The Coroner’s Inquest into the deaths of Carl Charlie and Robert Luggi lasted 13 days in July. The jury shared its recommendations last Friday.
