Futuristic tools have made themselves available for residents throughout the Bulkley Valley
A 3D printer is now available for public use at the Smithers Library, with 3D mobile scanner set to arrive in the next month.
Director Wendy Wright says these tools have been used for everything, from making children’s toys to replicating artifacts in museums. She adds that the most inspiring use may be on the operating table.
“Doctors in the Chicago area … recently scanned the skull of a child awaiting surgery and practised several different approaches on the 3D replicas to determine the best procedure to use,” she says.
The library currently offers a training course on the printer.
The scanner will be arriving in the next 4-6 weeks.
