ICBC looking at expanding special license plates

More unique licence plates benefitting non-profits could end up on BC roads in the near future.

ICBC and the province are looking at expanding to the special licence plate program – currently, drivers can support BC Parks with a special plate, the extra fee associated is donated to help maintain provincial parks.

According to ICBC, they have been frequently asked the question ‘why not more?’

They are putting it to a survey, which you can find here.

“Hearing directly from British Columbians on this topic is an important first step on a longer journey toward a wider variety of licence plates on our roads,” said David Wong, president and CEO of ICBC in a release.

Same as with BC Parks, other non-profits and charities would get the extra plate fees as a donation.

“We’ve seen the popularity of specialty plates in other jurisdictions and how British Columbians have embraced BC Parks plates,” said Mike Farnworth, Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General. “The time is right to look at expanding the program and I encourage all motorists to take the survey today.”
