The Glen Vowell Band is expanding their local food production hub thanks to funding from the Northern Development Initiative Trust. (NDIT)
With the $130,632 grant, the band hopes to purchase a second modular hydroponic farm to double their output as demand exceeds supply for local produce.
“This project is so important to the community and the demand for fresh produce on the Gitxsan Territories, and neighbouring territories is so high that we can’t keep up,” said Chief Tony Sampare
In total, $1,292,261 is being distributed to six initiatives across Northern BC.
“We know that food security and housing in particular are important issues in our region and we are happy to support those initiatives,” said NDIT CEO Joel McKay
The deadline to enter their next round of intake is July 31st.
