Two area blazes break out during May long weekend

Two fires were recently discovered in the Bulkley Valley and Lakes District.

The first was discovered on Sunday north of Francois Lake, about 20 kilometres south of Burns Lake.

Eight BC Wildfire members attended the blaze, which grew to about 5.9 hectares.

The fire is under control, and crews will be checking for reignition in the coming days.

The second blaze ignited on Monday just south of Granisle.

The Granisle Fire Department responded to the flames, which stayed less than 0.1 hectares in size.

Crews were successful in extinguishing the blaze and it is no longer considered active.

Both fires are suspected to be human caused.

So far, BC Wildfire has attended eight blazes in the Northwest Fire Centre.

Category two and three fire bans remain in effect, and anyone who discovers a fire is asked to call *5555 even if you think it’s been reported.
