Smithers Air Quality Advisory lifted

Nearly two days after stating air quality concerns in Smithers, the Ministry of Environment has finally lifted the advisory.

Initially, it went in effect on Wednesday at 1 PM after a spike in residential wood burning and the recent cold air.

The current light winds have swept away the harmful particulate, dropping the average amount in the air from 27 micrograms per cubic metre to just over 12.

The Ministry of Environment says that a reduction in both outdoor burning and the use of wood burning stoves will lead to cleaner air.
