Hazelton winners of Aviva Community Fund

A long voting period and a lot of clicking paid off for Ken Trombley Arena and it’s users.

The Aviva Community Fund announced this morning that the “Hard Up in the Hazeltons” project was a winner of $100,000 for a new arena roof and Zamboni.

Hazelton Minor Hockey Association President Ryneld Starr says this win is the result of both communal and National support.

“It’s great for the kids to see that if you, I know it’s cliche, if you put your mind to it you can achieve great things and see how our community banded together and we got all the support from throughout the Northwest and throughout Canada,” he says.

Starr says it’s too late in the year to install a roof, so Trombley will remain an outdoor arena this season. What it lacks in a ceiling, it makes up for in new equipment.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a shiny new Zamboni clearing our ice after every practice this year.”

A timeframe for the new Zamboni will be announced at a later date.

Arena reps still have to pay for the deconstruction of the arena roof. Donations are still being accepted on the group’s gofundme page.
