Some of North America’s best skiers and snowboarders are in Smithers for this week’s events.
Beginning Tuesday, Hudson Bay Mountain will host the Canadian Ski Cross Championships and 2 Nor-Am events.
Smithers Ski and Snowboard Club coach Jan Wengelin says organisers have spent a lot of effort creating both the event and the track. This is the second year in a row Smithers is hosting it, and he wants this to become an annual thing.
“I hope we can showcase what we can do up here in the North, and in the Bulkley Valley,” he says, “hopefully in the future, putting events of this calibre on an annual basis, be skiing or snowboarding.”
The event will wrap up with performances and awards in Bovill Square Saturday at 5:30 PM.
