The Gitxsan have informed the province the nation will not discuss any pipeline development until the government withdraws offers of their traditional lands to other bands.
Gitxsan negotiator, Bev Clifton Percival says the province and the Kitselas and Kitsumkalum bands signed agreements in principal in which the government offered up Gitxsan land.
She says that destroys all the efforts to develop a meaningful financial relationship so until the offer of their lands is withdrawn the nation won’t talk LNG.
“The ultimate goal is to have that land offer withdrawn because it is Gitxsan lands and we have Aboriginal rights and title, we have prima facie rights and title in the courts of British Columbia and the province has to accommodate what we want.”
She says the Gitxsan haven’t heard a response from the province since announcing the discontinuation of LNG talks earlier this week.
