With BC having the lowest unemployment rate in Canada, it’s also looking good for youth seeking jobs in the Smithers area.
Avi Sternberg, the Job Developer with work BC, says there will be a job fair next Thursday. He says although the number of jobs in Smithers are not huge, he says there’s still some for young people.
“Smithers is a great location for new entry jobs such as working at Safeway, Canadian Tire; the nurseries out in Telkwa. The challenges facing youth are just knowing where to begin and where to start,” says Sternberg. “I think that a lot of the age range that we will be working with next week have never had exposure to effective job searching strategies.”
He says youth might not be aware of how to build a resume or effective interviewing techniques.
He encourages anyone from the 8th grade to 30-years-old to come to the Smithers WorkBC Employment Services Centre next week for youth week – there they will teach job seeking and resume building skills.
