Fort Mac Evacuees in the Bulkley Valley

Evacuees of fort McMurray are waiting to return home for those that still have one.

For Kelsey Price the struggle is not knowing when or if she can return home. she spent five days travelling from Fort McMurray with her mother and 6-year-old daughter to Telkwa where she’s now staying with family.

“You don’t know fear until you have that image in your head – a very real, vivid image – that your family is going to burn to death in your vehicle,” says Price.

She also says it’s harder to get immediate assistance not being in a shelter.

“I know that there is at least one more family making their way to the Smithers area. Discounts at stores, anything like that would be helpful. We don’t know when we’re going to get paid again. We’re left in this limbo,” says Price.

She knows her house is standing but isn’t sure if it’s livable or if she has a job to return to. She also thanks the community, and people of Houston, for their generous donations of clothes, toys and other much needed items.
